Main way for computers to store data on disks. Usually physical disks write and read data in chunks. This way Disks could imitate parallel writes and reads. For example if everything is stored in single chunk and a big file got written or read, user or other programs in a computer would need to wait until this operation finishes. Usually average computer runs dozens or hundreds of different programs (processes).Each block is addressable and could be read or written in random order.
